Up for sale is a 2022 Fender Made in Japan Ken Stratocaster Experiment #1 in Original White, complete with its original gig bag.

Created for Ken of L’Arc-en-Ciel, the Experiment #1 is a distinctive signature Stratocaster inspired by the Japanese art of kintsugi. Its gloss Original White finish is accented by Gold Sparkle detailing, gold hardware, and transparent covers that reveal the guitar’s unconventional pickup mounting and control layout.

Beyond its striking appearance, this model features an alder body, chunky U-shaped maple neck, and maple fingerboard, along with a carefully selected pickup set and a Neck/Bridge Blend control for additional tonal options.

This example is 100% original, in excellent condition, and professionally set up with 10–46 strings.

Kintsugi-Inspired Design

The Experiment #1 takes its visual inspiration from kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing pottery with lacquer highlighted by gold. The guitar’s Original White finish and Gold Sparkle accents evoke that contrast, while the gold hardware completes the look.

Transparent pickguard and rear cavity covers reveal details usually hidden on a Stratocaster. The pickups are mounted directly to the body rather than suspended from the pickguard, making this a distinctive design from both the front and back.

Custom Pickup Configuration & Blend Control

This Stratocaster pairs Fender V-Mod II single-coils in the neck and middle positions with a Fender Fat ’50s single-coil in the bridge.

Its control layout also departs from the traditional Stratocaster arrangement. In place of the second tone knob, the Experiment #1 features a Neck/Bridge Blend control, allowing you to bring the neck or bridge pickup into selected switch positions for sounds beyond the standard five-way combinations.

The result is a familiar Stratocaster foundation with additional flexibility for dialing in your preferred pickup blend.

Chunky U-Shaped Neck & Playability

Based on the feel of Ken’s personal Stratocaster, the chunky U-shaped maple neck measures .90" at the 1st fret and .98" at the 12th, with a measured 1.650" nut width.

The 9.5" radius maple fingerboard provides a comfortable playing surface, while the satin neck finish feels smooth in the hand. Gotoh SG381 locking tuners and the six-point Pure Vintage synchronized tremolo round out the hardware package.

At 8 lbs 10 oz, this example has a substantial feel and is ready to play following its recent professional setup.
