For Sale: 2015 Gibson Custom Shop Limited Edition SJ-200 – Trans Blue | Rare Run | OHSC + COA

Up for sale is a stunning and exceptionally rare 2015 Gibson Custom Shop Limited Edition SJ-200 in Trans Blue, complete with its original Gibson hard-shell case and Certificate of Authenticity.

Reportedly limited to approximately 40 instruments, this is one of the more unusual and visually striking SJ-200 variations Gibson produced during this period. The translucent blue nitrocellulose finish allows the beautiful figuring of the flame maple back and sides to remain visible beneath the color, creating a dramatic appearance that looks even better in person.

Beyond its rarity, this is still everything you want from Gibson’s flagship Super Jumbo—a huge, room-filling acoustic voice, excellent projection, rich lows, sparkling highs, and the unmistakable presence of an SJ-200.

Condition

Excellent – 9/10

• Light scratches and a few small dings from normal use
• No cracks, breaks, repairs, or structural issues
• Neck is straight and stable
• Truss rod functions properly
• Frets are in excellent condition with virtually no wear

• Plays cleanly with no buzzing or dead spots

The original Gibson hard-shell case is included. The case shows some normal exterior wear from use but remains fully functional.

Non-Original Pickguard

The pickguard has been replaced with a non-original pickguard.

The replacement is slightly smaller than the factory original, and under close inspection you can see a faint outline/impression in the clear coat around portions of the replacement pickguard where the original pickguard previously sat.

This is cosmetic only and is fairly subtle—you have to look closely to notice it—but we want to make sure it is clearly disclosed.

The original pickguard is not included.

Aside from the replacement pickguard, the guitar presents beautifully and remains an exceptionally clean example.

Rare Trans Blue Finish

The Trans Blue finish is unquestionably one of the highlights of this limited-edition SJ-200.

Rather than covering the maple with an opaque color, the translucent finish allows the natural figuring of the flame maple back and sides to remain visible underneath the deep blue color.

The result is spectacular, particularly as the figuring changes with the viewing angle and lighting.

Combined with the traditional SJ-200 appointments, gold hardware, crown fingerboard inlays, and unmistakable Super Jumbo body, it creates a guitar with tremendous visual presence.

If you're looking for an SJ-200 that stands apart from the traditional Natural and Sunburst examples, this one certainly does.

Tone & Feel

There is a reason the SJ-200 has remained one of Gibson’s flagship acoustic guitars for generations.

The massive Super Jumbo body produces a large, powerful acoustic voice with excellent projection, while the Sitka spruce top and flame maple back and sides give the guitar a distinctive combination of clarity, punch, and definition.

The low end is big without becoming muddy, the highs have plenty of sparkle, and chords retain excellent separation even when the guitar is played aggressively.

It has enough power for heavy strumming but remains responsive when played more delicately.

The neck measures .81" at the 1st fret and .88" at the 12th fret, giving it a relatively comfortable, streamlined feel for such a substantial acoustic guitar.

At 5 lbs 6 oz, the guitar feels lively and resonant in the hands.

LR Baggs Electronics

The guitar is equipped with LR Baggs electronics, making it ready for amplified performances in addition to its impressive acoustic voice.
