For Sale: 2012 Gibson Left-Handed Les Paul Standard Plus – Trans Amber Flametop | OHSC + Paperwork

Up for sale is a beautiful 2012 Gibson Left-Handed Les Paul Standard Plus in Trans Amber, complete with its original Gibson hard-shell case and paperwork.

This is an especially attractive left-handed example of Gibson's redesigned 2012 Les Paul Standard, featuring a gorgeous AAA figured flame maple top, modern weight-relieved mahogany body, asymmetrical SlimTaper neck, compound-radius rosewood fingerboard, Burstbucker Pro humbuckers, locking tuners, and Gibson's extremely versatile four push/pull control system.

The Trans Amber finish is a perfect match for the highly figured maple top, allowing the flame and natural character of the maple to remain fully visible while giving the guitar a warm, classic appearance.

Factory left-handed Les Paul Standards are already far less common than their right-handed counterparts, and finding a clean Standard Plus Flametop from this era with its original case and paperwork makes this an especially appealing example.

AAA Flame Maple Trans Amber Top

One look at this guitar makes it obvious why Gibson gave these models the Standard Plus designation.

The carved AAA figured flame maple top displays beautiful figuring across the entire face of the guitar, and the transparent Amber finish allows the grain and three-dimensional flame of the maple to remain the visual centerpiece.

The figuring changes character depending on lighting and viewing angle—the hallmark of a great flame maple top.

Rather than covering the maple with an opaque finish, Trans Amber highlights its natural coloration and creates a warm golden appearance that fits the Les Paul perfectly.

Combined with the cream binding, pickup rings, pickguard, and classic trapezoid inlays, this is an exceptionally good-looking Les Paul.

2012 Les Paul Standard

The 2012 Les Paul Standard represented a more modern interpretation of Gibson's flagship solidbody while retaining the fundamental ingredients that define a Les Paul.

You still get the essential combination of a carved maple top, mahogany body, set mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard, 24.75" scale length, dual Gibson humbuckers, Tune-O-Matic bridge, and stopbar tailpiece.

Gibson then added several player-oriented features, including:

  • Modern weight relief
  • Asymmetrical SlimTaper neck profile
  • Compound-radius fingerboard
  • Locking tuners
  • Burstbucker Pro humbuckers
  • Coil splitting
  • Phase switching
  • Bridge pickup bypass

The result is a Les Paul that retains the look, feel, and fundamental sound of the classic design while offering considerably more tonal flexibility than a traditional Standard.

Modern Weight-Relieved Mahogany Body

One of the significant features of the 2012 Standard is Gibson's modern weight-relief system.

Rather than using a completely solid mahogany back, Gibson strategically removes material from inside the body before attaching the maple top.

This helps reduce unnecessary weight while retaining the substantial feel and tonal response players expect from a Les Paul.

This particular guitar weighs 8 lbs 14 oz, putting it comfortably below the weight of many traditional Les Pauls while still feeling solid and substantial in the hands.

For players who spend long sessions standing with a guitar, that difference can be especially welcome.

Asymmetrical SlimTaper Neck

The asymmetrical SlimTaper neck profile is another defining feature of this generation of Les Paul Standard.

Rather than maintaining an identical contour across the entire back of the neck, the profile is shaped asymmetrically to better follow the natural position of the player's hand.

Our measurements on this particular guitar are:

  • Nut Width: 1.70"
  • 1st Fret Depth: .83"
  • 12th Fret Depth: .88"

Those measurements make this a relatively streamlined Les Paul neck without feeling excessively thin.

There's only a modest increase in depth from the first to the twelfth fret, giving the neck a consistent, fast feel as you move up the fingerboard.

For players who find large vintage-style Gibson necks cumbersome, this profile is an excellent alternative.

Compound-Radius Rosewood Fingerboard

The bound rosewood fingerboard features a compound radius, another player-focused feature of the 2012 Standard.

The design provides a comfortable feel for chord work in the lower register while gradually becoming more accommodating for bends and lead playing farther up the neck.

Combined with the asymmetrical SlimTaper profile and 24.75" scale length, it makes this Les Paul feel exceptionally comfortable across the entire neck.

The traditional trapezoid inlays and cream binding preserve the unmistakable Les Paul Standard appearance.

Burstbucker Pro Humbuckers

The guitar is equipped with a pair of Gibson Burstbucker Pro humbuckers.

These pickups deliver the warmth, punch, and harmonic richness associated with vintage-inspired Gibson humbuckers while retaining enough clarity and definition for more modern playing styles.

The neck pickup provides a warm, rounded voice that's excellent for clean passages, blues, and fluid lead work.

The bridge pickup adds bite, upper-mid presence, and enough output to push an amplifier naturally into overdrive.

But on this particular generation of Les Paul Standard, the pickups are only part of the story.

Four Push/Pull Controls

One of the coolest features of the 2012 Les Paul Standard is its expanded electronics.

All four traditional Les Paul controls incorporate push/pull switching, dramatically expanding the tonal possibilities without changing the guitar's classic appearance.

The control system provides:

  • Volume 1 Push/Pull: Coil split
  • Volume 2 Push/Pull: Coil split
  • Tone 1 Push/Pull: Phase switching
  • Tone 2 Push/Pull: Bridge pickup bypass / “blower” function

The individual coil-split functions allow the Burstbucker Pros to produce brighter, leaner tones that move closer to traditional single-coil territory.

The phase function provides another distinctly different voice when both pickups are selected, producing a thinner, more cutting character that works especially well for funky rhythm parts, blues, and recording applications.

The bridge bypass function offers an immediate route to the bridge pickup's full output, making it especially useful when switching quickly from a rolled-back rhythm sound to a full-output lead tone.

It gives this Les Paul an unusually broad tonal palette without requiring additional switches or altering the traditional control layout.

Tone & Feel

At 8 lbs 14 oz, this guitar strikes a great balance between traditional Les Paul substance and modern comfort.

The mahogany body supplies the warmth and midrange authority players expect from a Les Paul, while the carved maple top contributes attack and definition.

The Burstbucker Pros provide everything from warm cleans and classic blues tones to aggressive rock sounds, while the push/pull electronics dramatically expand what the guitar can do.

The asymmetrical SlimTaper neck feels fast and natural, and the compound-radius rosewood fingerboard makes both rhythm playing and upper-register lead work comfortable.

It's equally at home playing blues, classic rock, hard rock, alternative, country, pop, and higher-gain styles.

For a left-handed player who wants one Les Paul capable of covering a huge amount of musical ground, this is a particularly compelling setup.

Factory Left-Handed Configuration

Of course, one of the most important features of this particular guitar is that it is a factory left-handed Gibson.

Left-handed versions were produced in considerably smaller quantities than the standard right-handed models, which can make clean examples—especially desirable figured-top configurations—much harder to find on the used market.

This isn't a converted right-handed guitar or an aftermarket modification.

It's a proper left-handed Les Paul Standard Plus, built by Gibson for left-handed players from the start.

Combined with the AAA Flametop, Trans Amber finish, versatile electronics, and original case and paperwork, it makes for a very appealing package.

Original Gibson Hard-Shell Case & Paperwork

The guitar comes complete with its original Gibson hard-shell case and paperwork.

Having both the factory case and accompanying paperwork is always a welcome addition, particularly on a clean, higher-spec left-handed example like this.

The guitar will be professionally packed inside its original hard-shell case for safe transportation to its next owner.
