For Sale: 2011 Gibson Sammy Hagar Red Rocker Explorer – Red | OHSC
Up for sale is a rare 2011 Gibson Sammy Hagar Red Rocker Explorer, complete with its original Gibson hard-shell case.
Designed in collaboration with Sammy Hagar, this signature Explorer combines classic Gibson mahogany construction with unique Red Rocker details, including the Red Rocker “R” truss rod cover and subtle Chickenfoot ghost image on the back, which becomes visible from certain angles.
It's loaded with an excellent pair of uncovered zebra Gibson humbuckers—a ’57 Classic in the neck and BurstBucker 3 in the bridge—and weighs a comfortable 8 lbs 2 oz.
A killer choice for the player, Gibson collector, or Sammy Hagar/Chickenfoot fan looking for a much less common Explorer.
Condition
Very Good – 8/10
The guitar shows honest cosmetic wear, including:
- Light scratches
- Dings
- Normal signs of play
- Touched-up finish damage on the bottom/lower horn
The most notable cosmetic issue is an area of finish damage on the lower horn that appears to have been touched up. We did not perform the work and do not know its history, but the touch-up appears to have been professionally done. Please review the close-up photos carefully.
There are no cracks, breaks, or structural issues.
The neck is straight and stable, and the original frets show minimal wear. The guitar has been professionally inspected and set up by our in-house luthier and plays cleanly across the fingerboard with no buzzing or dead spots.

Sammy Hagar Red Rocker Features
This isn't simply a standard Explorer in red. Gibson gave the Sammy Hagar model several distinctive signature touches.
The bold red finish references Hagar's longtime “Red Rocker” identity, while the “R” truss rod cover provides an immediately recognizable signature detail.
Even cooler is the subtle Chickenfoot ghost image on the back of the guitar. The graphic isn't obvious straight on—it reveals itself depending on the lighting and viewing angle, making it one of the model's most interesting features.
These details make the guitar particularly appealing to Sammy Hagar, Chickenfoot, Gibson, and artist-signature collectors.
’57 Classic + BurstBucker 3
The pickup combination is perfect for an Explorer.
The ’57 Classic neck humbucker provides warm, smooth vintage-style Gibson tones with plenty of clarity for clean playing and leads.
The hotter BurstBucker 3 bridge pickup adds punch, bite, and upper-mid aggression for crunchy rhythm work and high-gain leads.
Both pickups feature the cool uncovered zebra bobbin look.
Together, they deliver everything from warm blues and classic Gibson tones to aggressive hard rock.
Neck, Weight & Feel
This guitar has a thin, fast neck profile with measurements of:
- .82" at the 1st fret
- .88" at the 12th fret
- 1.69" nut width
The relatively consistent depth gives it a quick, comfortable feel throughout the neck.
At only 8 lbs 2 oz, it's also a comfortable weight for a full-size mahogany Explorer.
The combination of the slimmer neck, bound rosewood fingerboard, excellent upper-fret access, and manageable weight makes this a particularly player-friendly example.
Tone
The mahogany body and set mahogany neck provide the sustain, warmth, and strong midrange you'd expect from a Gibson Explorer.
The ’57 Classic keeps the neck position warm and articulate, while the BurstBucker 3 gives the bridge position the extra output and aggression needed for classic rock, hard rock, blues rock, and higher-gain playing.
It's a big-sounding Explorer without being excessively heavy.
Original Gibson Hard-Shell Case
The guitar comes complete with its original Gibson hard-shell case, an important addition for a less-common Gibson artist-signature model.
