Up for sale is a 1999 Fender Japan Crafted in Japan MG69-65 ’69 Reissue Mustang in beautiful Sonic Blue, complete with a non-original tweed hard-shell case.

The MG69-65 is a classic late-’60s-style Fender Japan Mustang, combining the unmistakable short-scale feel of the original with the excellent craftsmanship that has made these Japanese-built Fender offsets so popular with players and collectors.

With its 24" scale length, rosewood fingerboard, vintage 7.25" radius, dual Mustang single-coil pickups, traditional slider switching, and Dynamic Vibrato system, this guitar delivers the distinctive feel, sound, and character that have made the Mustang a favorite across generations of players.

Classic ’69 Mustang Design

The MG69-65 is Fender Japan’s take on the late-’60s Mustang formula, retaining the features that give these guitars their unmistakable personality.

The 24" short scale provides a slinky, responsive feel with lower string tension than a traditional 25.5" Fender scale. Combined with the vintage 7.25" fingerboard radius, it delivers an authentically old-school Fender playing experience.

Two vintage-style Mustang single-coils provide the bright, punchy attack associated with the model, while the pair of slider switches allows the pickups to be used individually or together, including the Mustang’s distinctive out-of-phase combination.

The traditional Dynamic Vibrato completes the package, providing the expressive vibrato response that is such an important part of the Mustang design.

Tone & Feel

A good Mustang has a sound and playing feel all its own, and this one delivers exactly that.

The original-style single-coil pickups have plenty of clarity, snap, and definition. Clean tones are articulate and lively, while adding overdrive brings out the raw, aggressive edge that helped make the Mustang a favorite among indie, alternative, punk, garage, grunge, and rock players.

The neck measures a comfortable .82" at the 1st fret, gradually filling out to .94" at the 12th fret, giving it a nice combination of a comfortable lower-register feel with a little more substance as you move up the neck.

At 7 lbs 6 oz, the guitar feels nicely balanced and substantial without being overly heavy.

Most importantly, it plays and sounds fantastic.

Many Fender Japan Mustangs from this era were originally sold with gig bags, but this guitar includes a non-original tweed hard-shell case.
