The SG-2000 represents one of Yamaha’s most celebrated high-end electric guitar designs, combining neck-through construction, an ebony fingerboard, carved maple-topped mahogany body, dual humbuckers, Bi-Sound coil-splitting electronics, and Yamaha’s distinctive brass sustain system.

Black is a particularly striking and less frequently encountered finish for the SG-2000, pairing beautifully with the ebony fingerboard, pearl inlays, binding, and gold hardware.

Neck-Through Construction & Sustain System

A defining feature of the SG-2000 is its neck-through-body construction, designed to create a solid connection through the length of the instrument while contributing to the model’s sustain and resonance.

Yamaha further developed this concept with a substantial brass sustain block beneath the bridge. This distinctive construction became one of the signature features of the SG-2000 and helped establish its reputation as a serious professional instrument.

Ebony Fingerboard & Playability

The ebony fingerboard provides a smooth, solid playing surface and is complemented by the SG-2000’s distinctive split-rectangle pearl inlays.

The neck measures .83" at the 1st fret and .96" at the 12th, with a measured 1.66" nut width. It begins relatively slim in the lower positions and gradually fills out as you move toward the upper register.

Yamaha Humbuckers & Bi-Sound Electronics

The SG-2000’s dual Yamaha humbuckers are paired with two volume controls, two tone controls, and a traditional 3-way pickup selector.

Yamaha’s Bi-Sound system adds another dimension to the electronics, using push-push tone controls to split the humbuckers for brighter, more single-coil-like sounds.

This gives the SG-2000 a broad tonal range while retaining the powerful humbucker voice at the heart of the design.

Black Finish & Gold Hardware

The Black finish is a less-common and particularly desirable look for the SG-2000.
