Up for sale is a very rare 2002 Fender Japan Crafted in Japan Left-Handed TL62B-TX ’62 Reissue Telecaster Custom in classic 3-Tone Sunburst, complete with a non-original hard-shell case.

The TL62B-TX is already one of the more desirable Telecaster reissues from Fender Japan, combining classic early-’60s Telecaster Custom styling with factory-installed USA Fender Texas Special pickups. Finding one in the much less common factory left-handed configuration makes this example especially cool and difficult to replace.

Built during Fender Japan’s highly regarded Crafted in Japan era, this model features the unmistakable double-bound alder body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, vintage 7.25" radius, and traditional Telecaster hardware. The 3-Tone Sunburst finish, white body binding, mint green pickguard, and rosewood fingerboard give it the elegant appearance that has made the early-’60s Telecaster Custom one of Fender’s most enduring designs.

Unlike most Fender Japan Telecasters, which originally shipped with only a gig bag, this guitar includes a non-original hard-shell case. Not only is this a significant upgrade for storage and travel, but it also ensures the guitar will arrive much better protected during shipping than it would in a gig bag.

The touch-up on the back was professionally done and is completely smooth to the touch. It cannot be felt when running your hand across the area and is purely cosmetic.

The neck is straight and stable, the frets are in excellent condition with plenty of life remaining, and everything functions exactly as it should.

A non-original hard-shell case is included.

Electronics & Features

One of the biggest features separating the TL62B-TX from a standard Fender Japan ’62 Telecaster reissue is its factory-installed set of USA Fender Texas Special Telecaster pickups.

The Texas Specials retain the clarity, snap, and unmistakable twang of a traditional Telecaster while providing additional output and stronger midrange presence. The bridge pickup has plenty of bite and authority, while the neck pickup provides a warmer, fuller voice that works beautifully for blues, rock, country, and clean rhythm playing.

The middle position combines the two for the balanced, articulate sound that has made the Telecaster a studio and stage staple for generations.

Just as important is the double-bound alder body. Inspired by the original early-1960s Telecaster Custom, the binding on both the front and back gives the instrument a much more refined appearance than a standard Telecaster.

Add the vintage-style three-saddle bridge, traditional 7.25" radius, rosewood fingerboard, and classic Fender Japan craftsmanship, and you have a guitar that captures the character of an early-’60s Tele exceptionally well.

And, of course, this particular guitar has one major advantage that makes it especially difficult to find: it was built from the factory for left-handed players.

Tone & Feel

This guitar delivers everything you want from a great vintage-inspired Telecaster, with a little extra muscle from the Texas Specials.

The bridge pickup is bright, punchy, and articulate with plenty of classic Tele snap, while the neck pickup is warm and rounded without becoming muddy. Push an amp into overdrive and the higher-output Texas Specials provide excellent midrange presence and bite while maintaining note definition.

The vintage 7.25" fingerboard radius and comfortable neck profile give the guitar an authentic old-school Fender feel, while the 25.5" scale retains the familiar tension and response Telecaster players expect.

At just 7 lbs 6 oz, this is also a very comfortable Telecaster with excellent balance whether sitting or standing.
