For Sale: 1984 Fender MIJ Japan ST62-65 ’62 Stratocaster – Sunburst JV Serial w/ Fender HSC
Up for sale is a 1984 Fender MIJ Japan ST62-65 ’62 Stratocaster in Sunburst, complete with a non-original Fender hard-shell case.
This is a very cool early Fender Japan Strat built at the legendary FujiGen Gakki factory and carrying a sought-after JV serial number. These early Japanese Vintage series instruments are highly respected for their craftsmanship, vintage-inspired feel, and overall quality, and many players consider them among the best Fender reissues of the era. This one has all the classic early-’60s Strat appeal, with a great broken-in feel and the kind of honest wear that suits a 40-year-old guitar well.
Condition
This guitar is in very good vintage condition and I would rate it a solid 7.5/10. It shows light scratches, small dings throughout, honest wear consistent with age, and some natural tarnish to the hardware. Please review all photos carefully for the most accurate representation of condition.
The tremolo arm is non-original. Everything else appears to be original. There are no cracks, breaks, or structural repairs. The neck is straight, the truss rod functions properly, and the frets show minimal wear. The guitar plays cleanly up and down the neck with low action and accurate intonation. It has also been recently professionally set up and is ready to go.
The non-original Fender hard-shell case is included.

Electronics & Features
One of the biggest draws of this guitar is its place in Fender Japan’s early production history. JV serial instruments are especially desirable because of their strong build quality and vintage-correct approach, and this ST62-65 is a great example of why those guitars remain so well regarded.
It also has all the classic Stratocaster ingredients players look for, including the rosewood board, vintage radius, and original pickup set. For someone who wants an early Fender Japan reissue with real collector appeal but also great everyday playability, this is a very attractive guitar.
Tone & Feel
This guitar captures the classic Strat formula beautifully, with clear bell-like highs, balanced mids, and tight low end. It has the lively, articulate response you want from a good vintage-style Strat, and it works equally well for blues, rock, pop, country, and clean rhythm playing.
The thin C neck feels comfortable and easy in the hand, and the 7.25" radius keeps the playing experience firmly rooted in vintage Fender territory. At 7 lbs 6 oz, it is also nicely balanced and very comfortable to play.
