For Sale: 2000 Gibson Flying V Gothic – Satin Black | Ebony Fingerboard | EMG 81/85 | OHSC

Up for sale is a 2000 Gibson Flying V Gothic in menacing Satin Black, complete with its original Gibson hard-shell case.

Part of Gibson’s highly distinctive Gothic series from the turn of the millennium, this Flying V takes the classic Gibson design in a darker, stripped-down direction. The combination of a solid mahogany body, satin black finish, ebony fingerboard, black hardware, and active EMG humbuckers gives it an aggressive appearance and a powerful voice to match.

These early Gothic models have become increasingly desirable, particularly the Flying V, and this is a great-playing example from the original production era.

Gothic Series Styling

The Gothic series was Gibson’s darker interpretation of several of its most recognizable designs, and the Flying V may be the model that fits the concept best.

Instead of the traditional glossy finish and ornate appointments, this guitar features a Satin Black finish, dark hardware, and an ebony fingerboard, creating a stripped-down aesthetic that looks as aggressive today as it did when these guitars were introduced.

The understated appearance also lets the unmistakable Flying V silhouette do the talking.

Twenty-six years later, these original Gothic-series Gibsons have developed an identity all their own and are becoming increasingly difficult to find in clean condition.

EMG 81/85 Active Humbuckers

This Flying V is equipped with the classic EMG 81/85 active humbucker combination.

The EMG 81 bridge pickup is legendary for its tight low end, aggressive attack, strong output, and exceptional definition under high gain. Palm-muted riffs stay focused and articulate, while leads cut through with plenty of sustain.

The EMG 85 in the neck provides a warmer, fuller counterpart with a thicker midrange response that works beautifully for leads, clean passages, and saturated neck-pickup tones.

Together, the 81/85 combination makes this Flying V particularly well suited for hard rock and metal, while still providing more versatility than its aggressive appearance might suggest.

Ebony Fingerboard & Slim Neck

One of the especially desirable features of these early Gothic models is the ebony fingerboard.

Its smooth, hard surface contributes to the guitar’s immediate response and complements the dark Gothic aesthetic perfectly.

The neck is also quite comfortable and streamlined, measuring just .80" at the 1st fret and .88" at the 12th fret.

Combined with Gibson’s 24.75" scale length, the result is a fast-playing guitar that feels particularly well suited for riffs, lead work, and aggressive playing.

Tone & Feel

At only 7 lbs 4 oz, this is a surprisingly lightweight Flying V.

The mahogany construction provides the warmth, sustain, and midrange presence associated with a great Gibson, while the ebony fingerboard and active EMGs add attack and definition.

Plugged into a high-gain amp, the guitar is tight, aggressive, and extremely responsive. The EMG 81 keeps heavy rhythm work focused, while the 85 provides a smooth and powerful neck voice for leads.

Despite its aggressive specifications, the guitar also cleans up nicely and is perfectly capable of handling classic rock and cleaner passages.

Most importantly, it plays and sounds fantastic.

Original Hard-Shell Case

The guitar comes complete with its original Gibson hard-shell case.

Having the original case is a nice addition to an increasingly collectible early Gothic-series Gibson and provides excellent protection for storage, transportation, and shipping.
