For Sale: 2012 Fender Japan MIJ Aerodyne Jazz Bass Black – Rare JJ Configuration w/ DiMarzio Model J Pickups + Gig Bag

Up for sale is a 2012 Fender Japan MIJ Aerodyne Jazz Bass in Black, complete with a gig bag.

This is a very cool and somewhat rare Aerodyne Jazz Bass featuring the factory Jazz/Jazz pickup configuration, which is much less common than the standard Aerodyne PJ layout. Most Aerodynes came with a Precision-style neck pickup and Jazz bridge pickup, but this example left the factory with dual Jazz Bass pickups. I actually removed the pickguard to verify the routing and confirm it is indeed the original JJ configuration.

The bass has also been upgraded with a set of DiMarzio DP123 Model J pickups — a substantial upgrade over the stock pickups and an excellent match for this instrument.

Electronics & Features

One of the coolest aspects of this bass is the factory Jazz/Jazz pickup configuration. Fender Japan Aerodynes are almost always seen in PJ format, so finding one with the original dual Jazz pickup setup is fairly unusual.

The upgraded DiMarzio DP123 Model J pickups are also a fantastic improvement. These pickups retain classic Jazz Bass warmth and growl while adding increased output, tighter low end, and completely hum-free operation.

The neck pickup has a huge, deep, wooly character that works beautifully for fingerstyle and rock tones, while the bridge pickup stays tight, punchy, and articulate. Together they deliver that unmistakable Jazz Bass growl with more power and focus than traditional vintage single-coils.

Even though they are passive pickups, they are hotter than typical stock Jazz Bass pickups and respond extremely well dynamically.

Tone & Feel

This bass has the fast, comfortable feel Aerodynes are known for, thanks to the slim neck profile and lightweight contoured body design.

Tonally, it delivers punchy lows, articulate mids, and excellent clarity while still retaining warmth and classic Jazz Bass character. The DiMarzio pickups add extra authority and fullness without losing definition.

At 8 lbs 14 oz, it feels balanced and comfortable without being overly heavy.
