Up for sale is a 2006 Gibson Thunderbird IV in Classic White, complete with its original Gibson hard-shell case.

Few basses have the visual presence of a Gibson Thunderbird. With its unmistakable reverse-body design, long neck, and powerful dual-humbucker configuration, the Thunderbird has been a rock & roll staple for decades.

This 2006 example is especially striking in Classic White, paired with a dark ebony fingerboard and black appointments. The bass remains all original and has developed plenty of honest cosmetic character while remaining structurally sound and an excellent player.

Condition

This bass has been played and shows honest cosmetic wear consistent with its age, including:

• Scratches and dings throughout

• Finish wear in various areas

• Faded areas from previous stickers

The Classic White finish has aged naturally over the years, giving the bass a great played-in appearance.

Classic White Finish

The Classic White finish gives this Thunderbird an especially striking appearance, emphasizing the sweeping lines of Gibson’s iconic reverse-body design.

Over the years, the finish has developed scratches, dings, checking, faded areas from previous stickers, and other natural playwear. Rather than looking artificially aged, it has the genuine character of a bass that has been played and enjoyed.

Paired with the dark ebony fingerboard and black appointments, it’s a killer combination.

Ebony Fingerboard & Thin Neck

The ebony fingerboard provides a smooth, responsive playing surface and is a particularly nice feature of this early-2000s Thunderbird.

The thin neck measures .82" at the 1st fret and .97" at the 12th, with a narrow 1.52" nut width. It starts relatively slim in the lower positions and gradually fills out as you move up the neck.

The result is a comfortable, fast-playing neck that suits the Thunderbird extremely well.

Original Gibson Thunderbird Humbuckers

The original Gibson Thunderbird humbuckers deliver the powerful voice the model is known for, with a big low end, aggressive midrange, and plenty of growl.

With a pick, the bass has the attack and grind that works especially well in rock settings, while fingerstyle playing brings out a thicker, warmer fundamental with plenty of definition.

At 9 lbs 0 oz, this example is also a manageable weight for a full-size Gibson Thunderbird.
