For Sale: 2001 Rickenbacker 4003 – Midnight Blue | Rick-O-Sound | OHSC
Up for sale is a 2001 Rickenbacker 4003 in the less commonly encountered Midnight Blue finish, complete with its original Rickenbacker hard-shell case.
This all-original example features the classic 4003 combination of neck-through maple construction, rosewood fingerboard, dual Rickenbacker single-coil pickups, and mono/stereo Rick-O-Sound outputs.
Midnight Blue gives the bass a particularly striking appearance, ranging from deep navy to a brighter metallic blue depending on the lighting.
Condition
Very Good – 8.5/10
This bass shows light surface scratches, small dings throughout, and a faded/discolored mark on the front of the headstock.
There is also some blue finish migration into the binding, a cosmetic characteristic that can be encountered on Midnight Blue Rickenbackers from this era. This does not affect the structure or playability of the instrument.
There are no cracks, breaks, repairs, or structural issues, and the bass remains all original.
The neck is straight and stable, and the original frets remain in excellent condition with minimal wear. It has been professionally inspected and set up by our in-house luthier and plays cleanly across the fingerboard with comfortable action, excellent intonation, and no buzzing or dead spots.
No paperwork is included.
Please review all photos carefully for the most accurate representation of condition.

Midnight Blue Finish
Midnight Blue is a distinctive Rickenbacker finish that changes noticeably with the lighting, appearing dark and subdued in lower light while revealing a brighter metallic blue under direct illumination.
The finish migration visible along portions of the binding is purely cosmetic and is clearly documented in the photos.
Classic 4003 Tone & Construction
The original Rickenbacker single-coils deliver the powerful lows, pronounced upper-mid presence, and crisp definition that give the 4003 its unmistakable voice.
Its neck-through maple construction contributes to the bass’s immediate response and sustain, while the traditional control layout allows the two pickups to be individually balanced and shaped.
Rick-O-Sound provides additional flexibility by allowing the neck and bridge pickups to be routed separately with an appropriate stereo setup, while a conventional mono output is available for standard use.
