For Sale: 1985 Fender Japan TL62B-70 ’62 Reissue Telecaster Custom – 3-Tone Sunburst Maple Fingerboard w/ Tweed HSC

Up for sale is a 1985 Fender Japan TL62B-70 ’62 Reissue Telecaster Custom in 3-Tone Sunburst with a maple fingerboard, complete with a non-original tweed hard-shell case.

This is a very cool and fairly rare mid-’80s Fender Japan Telecaster. The TL62B-70 typically comes with a rosewood fingerboard, so finding one with a maple board makes this example especially interesting and much less common. The neck pocket stamp confirms the model as TL62B-70, and like many of the better early Fender Japan instruments, it has a great vintage-inspired feel with the strong craftsmanship these E-serial guitars are known for.

Condition

This guitar is in very good condition and I would rate it a solid 7.5/10. It shows scratches and dings throughout, some finish checking at the neck joint, along with some wear on the back from normal use. Please review all photos carefully for the most accurate representation of condition.

There have been a number of modifications made to this guitar. The bridge has been replaced with a more modern-style Tele bridge, the neck plate appears to have been replaced, and the pickups have been upgraded to a set of Van Zandt Telecaster pickups.

There are no cracks, breaks, or repairs. The neck is straight, the frets are in very good condition, and the guitar plays cleanly up and down the neck with no buzzing or dead spots. It has also been recently professionally set up and is ready to go.

The non-original tweed hard-shell case is included.
