1981 Gibson ES-335 TD Wine Red - is currently on backorder. You may still purchase now though and we'll ship as soon as more become available.

For sale is a 1981 Gibson ES-335 TD in Wine Red, accompanied by a non-original Gibson hard-shell case. This guitar, having seen its share of play, is in good condition and performs impeccably. It displays some scratches, dings, finish checking throughout, and exhibits wear on the back. Notably, this guitar has been marked as a factory second. This was a relatively common practice in the 70s and 80s. While the exact reason for this designation remains unknown, it was likely similar to the Gibson "demo" shop, where guitars with minor finish flaws were sold at a reduced price. After over 40 years, most of these guitars now bear some sort of finish flaws.

Overall, I would rate the condition as a solid 7.5 out of 10. This particular 335 boasts several distinctive features that set it apart from many others, including the trapeze tailpiece, factory coil tap switch, and the original Gibson Tarback "Super Hum-bucking" pickups. These Gibson Tarback pickups deliver a dense, focused, and gritty tone, slightly darker than your standard, un-potted hum-bucker.

With the exception of the replaced bridge, all components of the guitar remain in their original state. There are no visible cracks, repairs, or significant issues. The neck is perfectly straight, exhibiting no concerns, and the original frets are in excellent condition with no signs of wear. There is no buzzing or dead spots, and I've recently conducted a setup to ensure optimal playability. The non-original Gibson hard-shell case is in very good condition and functions perfectly. I've provided detailed photos showcasing the wear on the guitar for your consideration. Thank you for your interest.
