Up for sale is a 2010 Gibson Custom Shop Historic ’68 Les Paul Custom Reissue in Ebony, complete with its original Gibson Custom Shop hard-shell case and Certificate of Authenticity.

This Historic Reissue recreates the iconic 1968 Black Beauty with a carved maple top, mahogany body, long neck tenon, chunky ’50s neck profile, and ebony fingerboard. Its original Gibson ’57 Classic humbuckers deliver warm, articulate PAF-style tones, while the VOS nitrocellulose finish and lightly aged chrome hardware give the guitar a beautifully understated vintage appearance.

At 9 lbs 6 oz, this is a substantial Les Paul Custom with the feel and character players expect from a Historic Reissue.

This guitar is in very good condition, showing:

• Light surface scratches
• Small dings throughout
• Minor cosmetic wear consistent with normal use

There are no cracks, breaks, repairs, or structural issues.

The neck is straight and stable, and the frets are in excellent condition with no visible wear. The guitar plays cleanly across the fingerboard with no buzzing or dead spots.

The original nut has been replaced with a bone nut, and the ABR-1 bridge has also been replaced. The original bridge is included in the case.

Historic ’68 Black Beauty

The 1968 Les Paul Custom marked the return of the single-cutaway Les Paul Custom after several years out of production.

Unlike the earlier all-mahogany Black Beauty design, the revived model featured a carved maple top over a mahogany body, creating the construction that would become closely associated with later Les Paul Customs.

This 2010 Historic Reissue captures that design with its long neck tenon, ebony fingerboard, substantial neck profile, and traditional Custom appointments.

The combination of the deep Ebony finish, mother-of-pearl block inlays, multi-ply binding, and chrome hardware gives this guitar the unmistakable Black Beauty appearance.

Gibson ’57 Classic Humbuckers

The original Gibson ’57 Classic humbuckers deliver the warm, open character associated with vintage PAF-style pickups.

The neck pickup offers full-bodied cleans and smooth, singing lead tones, while the bridge pickup provides articulate attack, rich midrange, and plenty of bite when pushed into overdrive.

The traditional two-volume, two-tone, and three-way toggle configuration allows for a wide range of sounds, from mellow blues and jazz to classic rock and heavier rhythm work.

Chunky ’50s Neck & Feel

The substantial chunky ’50s mahogany neck measures .92" at the 1st fret and 1.04" at the 12th, with a measured 1.69" nut width.

The profile fills out comfortably in the hand, offering the solid, traditional feel associated with Gibson's Historic Reissue instruments.

Its ebony fingerboard and long neck tenon complete the vintage-inspired construction, while the 9 lb 6 oz weight gives this example the substantial feel of a classic Les Paul Custom.

This guitar has been fitted with a replacement bone nut and replacement Gibson ABR-1 bridge.
